WELCOME
As a Clinical Psychologist I am registered with the HPCSA. I work with children, adolescents, adults, parents, families, couples and groups. I also have training and experience in forensic, neuropsychological and other assessment domains.
I am fluent in both Afrikaans and English. As a qualified clinical psychologist, I have extensive knowledge of different therapeutic frames and treatment modalities. I am also a registered BWRT (Brain Working Recursive Therapy) therapist with the Institute & The British Brainworking Research Society.

About Me
I have completed my Master’s degree in Clinical psychology through the University of South Africa (Unisa). I have been trained and work predominantly within the systemic framework. The systemic approach highlights the importance of each client’s individuality and the value that a client holds in contributing to the therapeutic process. Meaning I tailor my therapeutic approach around the specific needs of each individual client. I also use an integrative perspective to understand and treat clients and I hold the view that each individual requires a unique blend of techniques which fit their personal life experiences.
I completed my Internship at Sterkfontein Psychiatric Hospital (2016) where I worked with addiction, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, sexual disorders, neurocognitive disorders and various psychotic disorders. As part of my internship year I worked at numerous outpatient settings and clinics. In these settings I predominately worked with substance addiction, mood disorders, grief counselling, trauma and general everyday adjustment problems to life.
I completed my community service year at Correctional Services (2019). I worked with offenders in both the medium and maximum correctional centres. My experience included individual therapy, group therapy and psychological assessment. I was also extensively involved in parole assessments.

A Bit About Therapy
I implement effective psychotherapy methods to instill self-understanding among patients and encourage them to adopt new attitudes and feelings towards life situations. It is essential to keep in mind that therapy is not a magic pill or a quick fix: therapy is a healing process that necessitates participation and investment from the patient and therapist alike. But in the end, making small changes to self-defeating behavior and coping with feelings of sadness, fear, and pain can bring life-altering results.

Therapy Services
Therapy or psychotherapy comes in different sizes and forms. It really depends on your needs and what you want to achieve as to what is best for you. I work in a client centred manner which means that in assisting my clients, I do not impose any frame on the client and aim for a high level of safety and comfort in the therapeutic space. Withing this space the purpose is to grow, develop and to feel different and better. I work from what my client needs are and assist them in achieving their goals.
I am experienced in working with children, adolescents, and adults. The duration of therapy differs for each client and is subject to the intensity, severity, frequency, and prevalence of the type of challenge that each client presents with.
Psychotherapy is rendered for challenges that may include (but are not limited to) anxiety, depression, trauma, low self- esteem, adjustment difficulties, preparation for change, self improvement/growth, eating difficulties, weight loss/gain, obsessions & compulsions, forgiveness, anger, guilt, abuse, addiction, loss and relationship difficulties.
I am also proficient in conducting a range of psychological assessments including psycho-legal, neuro, cognitive and emotional evaluations.

Individual Psychotherapy
Individual therapy (sometimes called “psychotherapy” or “counseling”) is a process through which clients work one-on-one with a trained therapist—in a safe, caring, and confidential environment—to explore their feelings, beliefs, or behaviors, work through challenging or influential memories, identify aspects of their lives that they would like to change, better understand themselves and others, set personal goals, and work toward desired change.
People seek therapy for a wide variety of reasons, from coping with major life challenges or childhood trauma, to dealing with depression or anxiety, to simply desiring personal growth and greater self-knowledge.

Couples Therapy
Couples therapy is a form of psychological therapy used to treat relationship distress for both individuals and couples.
The purpose of couples therapy is to restore a better level of functioning in couples who experience relationship distress. The reasons for distress can include poor communication skills, incompatibility, or a broad spectrum of psychological disorders.
The focus of couples therapy is to identify the presence of dissatisfaction and distress in the relationship, and to devise and implement a treatment plan with objectives designed to improve or alleviate the presenting symptoms and restore the relationship to a better and healthier level of functioning. Couples therapy can assist persons who are having complaints of intimacy, sexual, and communication difficulties.

Family Therapy
Family therapy works to assist the family in rebuilding relationships between and among family members. Family therapy helps to regain the care for family members, understand each other’s needs and assist each other in working through issues and increasing psychological health and thus well-being.
A family sometimes needs a psychologist:
Enhancing communication within the family
Recovering from a trauma
Assisting with grief and the grieving process
Assisting the family with changes, for instance:
The addition of new family members, a new baby being born, foster or adopted children
Enhancing the relationship between parents and their child or children, from infancy onward
Working through changes after separation or divorce
Blending or blended families
Sibling rivalry or conflict as well as conflict between parents and their children
Developing healthy boundaries for each family member’s personal needs to be met
Adjusting or guidance for the family when a member of the family is diagnosed with a medical, psychiatric or psychological condition
Family therapy provides the family an save space and opportunity to communicate effectively and to help resolve problems.

Brain Working Recursive Therapy (BWRT®) is gaining momentum as a powerful psychotherapeutic tool. The principle is that we learn something new by practising it over and over again until it becomes second nature to us. BWRT uses the same idea of learning a new way of reacting and behaving via repetition, rehearsal and reflection of successes. In doing so the brain provides a new neural pathway network. It is about changing an undesired behaviour in favour of a better behaviour. BWRT also uses your own powerful imagination and thought processes.
In my practice I use BWRT as part of a therapeutic process and find it extremely useful as a way to assist clients with a range of struggles. BWRT is a valuable tool that I incorporate in individual therapy when indicated. Some of the areas I have used BWRT with include: Trauma, Acute Stress and PTSD, Anxiety, Phobias, Grief and Bereavement, Loss (including with relationships), Mood Disorders: Depression and Bipolar, Addictions, and OCD.

Group Psychotherapy
Group therapy is a form of psychotherapy that involves one or more therapists working with several people at the same time on a specific topic. Groups typically include between seven and ten individuals. The group typically meets once every second week for approximately two hours per session.
workshops include:
+ Social skills
+ Social anxiety
+ Public speaking (overcoming the fear of)
+ Work-life balance
+ Stress and resilience
+ Assertiveness
+ Relaxation
+ Mindfulness

Schema Therapy
I am trained in Schema Therapy, an evidence-based therapeutic approach that helps people understand and change long-standing patterns that may be keeping them stuck or causing emotional distress.
Schema Therapy focuses on identifying schemas — deeply rooted beliefs and emotional patterns that usually develop early in life, often as a result of unmet emotional needs or difficult experiences. These schemas can influence how you see yourself, relate to others, and respond to challenges, even when they no longer serve you.
In therapy, we work together to:
-
Identify unhelpful schemas and coping patterns
-
Understand where these patterns come from
-
Develop healthier ways of thinking, feeling, and relating
-
Strengthen your “healthy adult” mode so you can meet your emotional needs in more adaptive ways
Schema Therapy is especially helpful for individuals who feel stuck in repeated patterns, struggle with relationships, experience strong emotional reactions, or have found that short-term therapies have not fully addressed their difficulties. The approach is collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to your unique experiences.
